How can you live through a plane crash?

Don't assume that being in a plane crash is a death sentence. Some statistics have suggested that over 95 percent of people involved in these crashes survive. In fact, it's been found that there are a few things you can do to increase your odds of being in that surviving number if you're ever unlucky enough to be in an accident.

1. First, you want to sit close to the exit row. If possible, choose a seat in that row. If it's taken, pick one within five seats of the emergency exit.

2. Carry a wet washcloth with you to help you breathe if there is smoke in the cabin. You can put it in a plastic bag. It's even better to get an official smoke hood, which is designed to do the same thing. Some stats have shown that most people who die in plane crashes actually live through the initial crash and then die from inhaling too much smoke while trapped in the plane.

3. Sit in an aisle seat. If you can't have an aisleseat, get as close as possible. Don't sit by the window, despite the views.

4. Wear long-sleeved clothes and full shoes that cover your toes. Definitely don't wear sandals. Choose materials that don't burn, such as denim.

5. When the cabin crew tells you to look for the emergency exits, take an extra second and count the seats between you and the door. This way, if the cabin is so full of smoke that you can't breathe, you can find the door by feeling your way down the aisle.

If you've survived a plane crash, you may be able to seek compensation for your injuries. Make sure that you know what legal options there are in Arizona.
